Laboratory & Diagnostic Testing

Diagnostic Testing

In addition to our in-home treatment and care, we also provide several mobile diagnostic exams as well. Our mobile diagnostic testing machines are provided by Mobilerad, Inc., a local company based in Port Jefferson who has performed in-home diagnostic testing since 1997.

In Home Doppler Ultrasound | In Home EKG | In Home X-ray Exam | Suffolk CountyWhen a diagnostic imaging exam is needed, a Mobilerad technologist in the area will be dispatched to your location to quickly and easily perform your exam, and send the results to our office, eliminating the inconvenience of visiting your local hospital emergency room or helping patients who cannot travel to a hospital for these exams. Mobilerad technologists can visit private homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and more.

In order to improve the speed and convenience of our imaging services, we now include digital imaging for our ultrasound, echocardiogram, vascular dopplers and other procedures. Digital imaging machines allow technicians to magnify and edit images almost as soon as they are taken for immediate, accurate results right outside your home.

The images from your procedure are sent to our office via the Internet and processed just minutes after the exam is completed. We can view your images immediately online and also order prints and reports to view in the office. Your other doctors can also view the images from your exam online, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The images will remain online for up to 7 years.

Ultrasound/Doppler's

In Home Doppler Ultrasound Testing Suffolk CountyDigital imaging exams are performed with GE technology. The Logiq-e machine for ultrasound exams is just slightly larger than a laptop computer and can be easily transported to any location for quick and accurate testing results. This procedure can be performed to evaluate the abdomen, aorta, breast, pelvis, kidney, scrotum and thyroid, and can also perform special exams such as a Carotid Duplex Doppler, Arterial Duplex with Doppler, Venous Duplex with Doppler and echocardiogram.

EKG's

An electrocardiogram or EKG is a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart and translates it into waves on paper for a doctor to analyze. An EKG can be used to determine:

  • The cause of chest pain or other heart disease symptoms
  • How well heart medications are working
  • If the walls of the heart are too thick
  • How well mechanical devices such as pacemakers are working
  • Check the overall health of the heart that is affected by other diseases

The test will be performed by placing small metal discs called electrodes on different areas of the body. The electrodes are connected to a machine that will trace your heart activity onto paper. The test usually takes 5-10 minutes.

Holter Monitoring

Holter or event monitoring is a tracing technique used for patients whose heart conditions cannot be properly diagnosed through an EKG or other typical tests. These medical devices record the electrical activity of the heart and are often used to diagnose arrhythmias or myocardial ischemia, conditions that may or may not cause symptoms.

Since an EKG only lasts for a few minutes, it may not detect any heart abnormalities if they are not present at that time. The Holter monitor is worn for 24 to 48 hours and records the heart's activity throughout that time. This helps to detect arrhythmias that may only occur at certain times, such as after physical exertion.

There is no risk involved in using a Holter monitor. Although some conditions still may not be diagnosed with this device, it is often helpful in identifying the cause of heart rhythm problems.

X-rays

In Home X-ray Exam Suffolk CountyOur mobile X-ray exams are performed with the Kodak Orex digital X-ray system, the same system used by the US Military Medical Corp overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq. This quick and simple procedure can help diagnose fractures, detect pneumonia and other diseases present in the chest area, and can also check the placement of a feeding tube. Any type of general X-ray exam can be performed through this system. The results of the procedure are immediately sent to our office, where they are processed and available in just a few hours.
